Magic Mouse

　　Apple Inc. (AAPL) on Tuesday sought to reinvent its mouse, unveiling a sleek new wireless multi-touch mouse, dubbed Magic Mouse, for $69.

　　Getting the mouse right has been a surprisingly elusive pursuit for a company that has defined modern culture with its iMacs, iPods, and iPhones. When the original iMac was released in 1998, Apple came out with a round-shaped mouse, known as the 'hockey puck' mouse, which had a cool translucent design but was considered too small and clumsy to use.

　　Apple's latest mouse, called Mighty Mouse, had a scroll wheel and a touch-sensitive top that people could tap on to click on something, but it was unpopular because some found it awkward to use.

　　This time, Apple hopes it got it right. The new Magic Mouse uses the same technology as the multi-touch features on iPhones, iPod touches and MacBooks. It also has no buttons and the entire top of the curved mouse is a multi-touch surface, which people can navigate with intuitive finger gestures. As a result, people can make single or multi-touch gestures to do more things than just clicking, such as swiping through Web pages or photos.

　　Apple said in a release that users can easily scroll through long documents, pan across large images or swipe to move forward or backward through a collection of web pages or photos. Philip Schiller, Apples head of marketing, added in the release that the Multi-Touch technology allows us to offer an easy-to-use mouse in a simple and elegant design.

　　Apple said the new mouse will be available at the end of October. The mouse will be included with new iMacs, which the company also unveiled on Tuesday.
