China locked into financial policy

China has reiterated its commitment to proactive financial policies and moderately loose monetary policies amid market speculation that it might be preparing an exit strategy.

Speaking at an international conference, Vice Premier Li Keqiang made clear that the government will stay the course on its current policies, despite the fact that the country's economic growth is likely to speed up in the fourth quarter.

He also noted that the stimulus financial policies should be flexible and sustainable

 

 

China's top legislature starts bimonthly session, considers draft amendment to electoral law

China's top legislature has started its bimonthly session, with the focus on a draft amendment to the electoral law.

The session will also deliberate a draft law on protection of oil and natural gas pipelines for the first time.

Also at the session, lawmakers will examine a report of the State Council, the Cabinet, on major public projects with government investment, and two reports from the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate.

 

 

China to mark 60th founding anniversary of airforce with warplane show

China's airforce will put its most advanced warplanes on display in the suburbs of Beijing in November, to mark its 60th founding anniversary.

A senior airforce commander, He Weirong, says all the aircraft including the J-11 fighters and H-6 bomber jets were home made.

The big day is on Nov. 11.

Concurrently an international military forum will also be held, with more than 300 senior air force officers from home and abroad expected to attend.

 

 

Chinese navy vessel sets sail for ROK, Japan

A training vessel of the Chinese Navy, "Zhenghe", has set sail for a visit to South Korea and Japan,

Two cadets from an institute under Japan's maritime self-defence force are on board the vessel to receive training with their Chinese counterparts.

Of nearly 370 people on board the vessel, 230 are cadets from four academies under the Chinese Navy.

 

 

Chinese mainland reports new death case of A/H1N1 flu

The Chinese mainland has reported a new fatality from the A/H1N1 flu.

Health authorities say the patient died in the northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Sunday.

The disease has earlier caused two deaths on the Chinese mainland.

China is currently experiencing what experts call "a second round of A/H1N1 flu infection."

The mainland has so far reported more than 33 thousand confirmed cases.

 

 

Four killed in mine explosion in SW China

Four workers have been found dead after a blast in a lead-zinc mine in southwest China's Yunnan Province Monday.

The provincial government said the four died of suffocation by poisonous fumes.

 

 

Obama says he won't rush on Afghan troops decision

U.S. President Barack Obama says he "will never rush" the critical decision on whether to send more troops to Afghanistan.

Speaking at a Naval Air Station in Florida, Obama also noted he's moving closer to make the critical decision.

The boost of troops was eagerly requested by the field generals, but remained highly controversial among both politicians and the general public.

 

 

Iran may ship 'part' of its uranium abroad

Iran's Foreign Minister says his country may agree to ship a part of its stockpile of low enriched uranium abroad for further enrichment.

Monday's comments by Manouchehr Mottaki is the first official indication that Tehran may at least partly agree to a U.N.-drafted plan to ship most of Iran's uranium to Russia for further enrichment.

Mottaki said Iran is weighing between the U.N. plan or buying its own enriched uranium.

 

 

Death toll in Baghdad blasts climbs to 155

Iraqi hospital and police officials have raised the toll from Sunday's deadliest bombings to 155 people.

More than 500 people were also injured.

 

 

Honduras' de facto leader says ready for anything, even relinquishing power

Honduras' de facto leader Roberto Micheletti says he's open for dialogue to solve the country's political crisis and that he's ready for anything, even relinquishing power.

This is the first time he talked to the media since negotiations with ousted President Manuel Zelaya's representatives began on Oct. 7. The talks ended last week without reaching a compromise.

Zelaya, who's taking refuge at the Brazilian embassy, said Sunday he expected an agreement would soon be reached.

 

 

Chinese painting exhibition on Tibet held in Milan

An exhibition of paintings by Chinese Han and Tibetan artists has started in the Italian city of Milan, showing the sublime sceneries and traditional customs of China's Tibet.

Entitled as "Snow-Covered Plateau -- Chinese Painting Works," the six-day exhibition features 58 paintings depicting the extraordinary landscape of Tibet and the region's social and economic development in past 50 years.

Another nine-day exhibition of the same theme started last week in Rome.
