China's quarterly economic growth picks up speed: vice premier

Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has restated that the country's quarterly economic growth is quickening and the contribution of domestic demand to economic growth is enhanced.

He made the remarks at the Third International Tax Dialogue (ITD) Global Conference, which opened in Beijing on Monday.

LI Keqiang said China should maintain the continuity and stability of macro-economic policies while enhance the flexibility and sustainability of these policies.

He said the global economic recovery is at a crucial stage and called on the international community to balance the developments of virtual economy and real economy, oppose trade protectionism, and provide more supports to developing countries to promote the all-round, balanced and sustainable development of world economy.

 

 

Four killed in mine explosion in SW China

Four workers have been found dead after a blast in a lead-zinc mine in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Monday.

The provincial government said the four died of suffocation by poisonous fumes.

 

 

Public security minister urges Party officials to better fulfil duties

Public Security minister Meng Jianzhu has urged Party officials in public security departments to enhance learning so as to better fulfill their obligations and tasks.

He called for efforts to promote the fine traditions and work styles of the Communist Party of China and strictly abide by Party disciplines.

Meng Jianzhu urged officials to do practical things that are in people's needs and helpful for the improvement of their living standards.

 

 

Chinese mainland reports new death case of A/H1N1 flu

The Chinese mainland has reported a new death case of A/H1N1 flu.

Health authorities say the new death case was found in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the patient died on Sunday.

The Chinese mainland has reported more than 33 thousand confirmed cases of the A/H1N1 flu.

China is currently experiencing what experts called "a second round of A/H1N1 flu infection," as recent infections are more widespread and increasing rapidly.

 

 

Pilgrims inoculated with A/H1N1 vaccine in China's largest Hui community

More than 2,000 Muslims on pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia have been inoculated with A/H1N1 vaccine in northwest China Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

A local official says the injection was free of charge, but each of them should pay five yuan (0.73 U.S.dollar) for equipment cost.

From Oct. 31 to Nov. 12, the pilgrims will take chartered flights to Mecca, .

Ningxia has more than 1.8 million Muslims of Hui ethnic group, which accounts for one third of its total population.

The China Islamic Association has announced that all the country's 12,700 Muslims on pilgrimage to Mecca this year will receive A/H1N1 flu inoculations, as the disease has spread to about 170 countries.

 

 

Iran may ship 'part' of its uranium abroad

Iran's Foreign Minister says his country may agree to ship a part of its stockpile of low enriched uranium abroad for further enrichment.

Monday's comments by Manouchehr Mottaki is the first official indication that Tehran may at least partly agree to a U.N.-drafted plan to ship most of Iran's uranium to Russia for further enrichment.

Mottaki said Iran is weighing between the U.N. plan or buying its own enriched uranium.

 

 

Death toll in Baghad blasts climbs to 155

Iraqi hospital and police officials have raised the toll from Iraq's deadliest bombing in two years to 155 people.

The deadly blasts on Sunday appeared to target two government buildings at the heart of downtown Baghdad.

More than 500 people were also injured.

 

 

Chinese painting exhibition on Tibet held in Milan

An exhibition of paintings by Chinese Han and Tibetan artists has started in the Italian city of Milan, showing the sublime sceneries and traditional customs of China's Tibet.

Entitled as "Snow-Covered Plateau -- Chinese Painting Works," the six-day exhibition features 58 paintings depicting the extraordinary landscape of Tibet and the region's social and economic development in past 50 years.

Another nine-day exhibition of the same theme started last week in Rome.

These exhibitions followed a two-day forum on the development of Tibet in the Italian capital, which attracted more than 400 participants from China, Italy, Austria, the United States, India, Australia, Spain and Belgium.

 

 

Women's 100m champion fails doping test

In the latest doping scandal at the Chinese National Games, women's 100m race champion Wang Jing has been tested positive for banned substance and has been banned from competition for life.

Wang Jing is from southeastern Fujian Province.

Her results have been nullified.

It's the third doping case at the Games.

Henan rower Guo Linna, who was involved in the first doping case, has been banned from competition for 4 years.
