思科将收购天地数码机顶盒业务

　　思科系统(Cisco Systems)宣布了收购中国天地数码（控股）有限公司机顶盒业务的计划，继续它最近的大举收购。
　　Cisco Systems announced plans to buy the set-top box business of China's DVN, continuing its recent buying binge.

　　这家硅谷网络巨头周一晚间说，将斥资约1,750万美元收购天地数码（控股）机顶盒业务；另外，未来4年还将有总计可达2,700万美元的付款。这是10月初以来思科的第4桩交易。四桩交易总额约为62亿美元。
　　The Silicon Valley networking giant said late Monday it will pay about $17.5 million for the DVN division, plus future payments over the next four years that could total an additional $27 million. It's Cisco's fourth deal since the start of October, and brings the total value of deals announced during that time to around $6.2 billion.

　　天地数码（控股）机顶盒业务生产把数字信号连到电视上的机顶盒产品。收购这项业务将扩展思科在中国的机顶盒业务；据思科估计，目前中国有1.60亿有线电视用户。思科已经在通过旗下的科学亚特兰大公司(Scientific-Atlanta)在全球生产和销售机顶盒。
　　The DVN unit makes products that connect digital signals to televisions. Buying it will extend Cisco's set-top box business in China, where the San Jose, Calif., company estimates that there are currently 160 million cable-television subscribers. Cisco already makes and sells set-top boxes around the world through its Scientific-Atlanta business.

　　思科负责公司发展的副总裁罗曼斯基(Hilton Romanski)说，这桩交易主要是针对天地数码（控股）机顶盒部门的管理团队，以及利用该部门已经在中国建立的关系。预计天地数码（控股）机顶盒部门的管理团队将保留下来。思科还将接管天地数码（控股）的机顶盒产品。
　　This deal was largely about the DVN unit's management team-which is expected to stay on with Cisco-and being able to take advantage of the relationships that group has already build in China, says Hilton Romanski, Cisco's vice president of corporate development. Cisco will also take over DVN's set-top box products.

　　罗曼斯基说，尽管思科在衰退深重时期没有进行很多收购交易，该公司从未停止寻找潜在收购目标。他说，现在既然经济已经企稳，思科可以看到前方笔直的大道，加大马力前进了。
　　Romanski says that while Cisco didn't make many deals during the depths of the recession, the company never stopped looking at potential acquisition targets. Now that the economy has stabilized Cisco can 'see the straightaway and hit the gas,' he says.

　　思科预计该交易将在2010年上半年完成。
　　Cisco expects the deal to close in the first half of 2010.
