A Velo staff member is showing consumers how to use the coupon printing machine. Just swipe a tiny registered IC card on the Velo terminal, choose the coupon you want to print, press OK, and you can take the coupon to the restaurant and stores and enjoy discounts. The whole process takes a few minutes.
Fast food, cinema, clothes, cosmetics, as long as the store or restaurant has cooperation with Velo, consumers can print coupons via the machine right at the shopping mall, rather than taking all their coupons with them or forgetting to take them.
This kind of terminal enables consumers to print coupons according to their own will.
"I think it's convenient. I won't need to log on the company's website and print the coupon at home. I can just come and print it here."
"This is more convenient than the advertisement and coupon I get on the street. There are many Velo terminals at subway line 4 stations. I can print some coupons when I want to have lunch."
Usually, enterprises put a lot of effort into distributing coupons in the street, hoping to attract consumers. But Velo is a new platform to promote their products. They can become members of the Velo system by paying a service fee.
A manager says more and more customers are using Velo printed coupons at his restaurant.
"20 to 30 percent customers come to our restaurant to eat. It saves the cost on printing coupons and ads."
Currently, Velo has more than 300 thousand registered users in Beijing and more than one hundred enterprise partners.
Their terminals can be found at 12 big shopping malls and 9 subway line 4 stations. And there are more than 30 kinds of coupons for consumers to choose on each Velo terminal.
Ji Fang is the manager of Velo information system in Beijing. She says Velo's promotion model is innovative.
"We combine the need of the three parties together—the consumer, enterprise and shopping mall. The shopping mall hopes to integrate all the discount and shopping information on a platform."
Guo Xinmei is the deputy director of the economics institute at Beijing University of Industry and Commerce.
"Velo integrated commercial information via electronic platform. People are willing to acquire commercial information via this electronic measure, although they have limited time. Velo's targeting customers with comparative fixing."
