主持人: hello,Joshua, my question is how can i ask someone for a date ? what is a better way to say it ?

J.M.: Once again, at least in the American culture, the best way is just to be honest. Americans are a little more direct, sometimes in Chinese cultrure, your culture, much more polite. You can tell her that "you are very smart" "I think you are very great", "you are very beautiful". Whatever the reason, give them the reasons that you want them to go on a date with you.

和刚才一样，至少在美国文化中是这样，最好的办法就是诚实。美国人更直接，而有时候中国文化可能更客气。你可以直接告诉她，我认为你很聪明，你很棒，你很漂亮。什么理由都可以，只要告诉她你想和她约会的理由就行。

主持人: Can we ask you something you've done on your first date that was embarrassing?

可不可以给我们讲讲你第一次约会,有没有发生什么尴尬的事？

J.M.: Might be many of those. One of those things I did on my first date that was embarassing might be my date that got to use the bathroom. What we got used to, a bathroom, is a misread, the side on the door. She walked into the bathroom, and I walk into the same bathroom after her. I feel very silly.

好像有很多。我第一次约会，我记得有件尴尬的事情是关于使用卫生间的。我们习惯上说的浴室，是误解。她去了卫生间，而我也进了同一间。很傻的。

主持人: Thank you for your spectacular responses. Now let's look at some dates regarding of the business meaning that our audience have. Dear Josh, I have to get to know my foreign colleagues, but I don't know what to say to them other than, Hey the weather is nice today. Could you help me out here?

J.M.: Yes. It seems to be a problem that a lot of my students have, not knowing what to say. But all speech is just general conversation. It's basiaclly the same in Chinese and in English. We work them differently. What do you normally talk to your friends, your chinese friends? Think about that, and talk about them with your foreign friends. A good starter as "How was your day?" And if you tell me about your day, then I can learn many things that I can talk to you about. The most importantly is really let the person you are talking with know that you are interested in what they have to say.

我的许多学生也会有这样的问题，不知道说什么好。 所有的谈话只是一般的交流，这在中文里和在英文里都是一样的。你平时和你的本国朋友聊什么，也可以和你的外国朋友聊什么。比如，以“你今天过的怎么样”这样的问题为开始，如果你告诉我一些事，我就有了更多可以聊起来的材料。最重要的是，要让你谈话的对象感觉到，你对他将要说的事情是感兴趣的。

主持人：Mr. Maddox, how good does my english level have to be inorder for me to get into a foreign company?

J.M.: It depends upon the foreign company, on what your job might be. Sometimes one of the things that more important in your English level is your confidence in English. Many
People I meet have very high english level, but they're nervous to use their English. So you must show your cofidence, in a lot of time, even though you have lower level than someone else, you still seem you have a higher level, and maybe you'll get the job when they don't.
