肯妮贝儿出生于英国里兹，自小在教堂礼拜中演唱诗歌，学生时期攻读古典音乐，并拉得一手绝佳的小提琴。
在接触了电吉他之后，贝儿开始着手创作音乐，不过，原本打算进军摇滚乐坛的她，却阴差阳错地在一家爵士乐俱乐部作兼职，于是，她又学习了更多不同种类的音乐，拓宽了自己的音乐之路。
签约唱片公司之后，她确立了自己恬淡、慵懒、悠闲的音乐风格。值得一提的是，“Put your records on”首周空降英国单曲金榜，就获得了亚军，仅次于麦当娜之后，而去年冲击奥斯卡的大热影片《末路爱神》中也收录了这首歌作为插曲。
BBC国家广播电台形容说：“肯妮贝儿开创了在悠闲懒散星期天午后聆听的音乐新纪元。”
