We've been trying to figure out the best way to show you the variety of restaurants here in New York. Now, there are the legendary places where dinner can cost you a couple of hundred dollars, and there are the trendy places that come and go. And, there's also Chinatown and Little Italy, this is after all a city of immigrants, and you can see that reflected in its food. Right now, I'm in the East Village and within just a few blocks of where I am, you'll begin to get an idea of the diversity of restaurants that make New York City so unique.
-- This is a pastry shop café. We've been here since 1894. started out as a pool hall and my father's uncle converted it to confections and we've served many great people from Caruso to Roosevelt up to, you know, present day people. People that are in the area just go to shows, movies, theater and then they go to the restaurant and instead of opting for desserts there, they come here because they like a bit of old New York, this is the place to come.
--And from like all the way Uptown New York, they'll come down here for dessert?
--Yeah. From Connecticut, Long Island, and the tri-state area. We have somebody here from Michigan right now as we speak.
--What does B and H mean? What does that stand for?
--It means that Better and Health.
--Blintzes(水果薄饼) and pirogi（俄式馅饼）, potato pancakes（马铃薯煎饼）, salmon croquettes（鲑鱼丸）. We made us a delicious challah bread（犹太鸡蛋面包） and our own bread. （自制面包）We make it here hot borscht（罗宋汤）.
--Oh, yeah. This is original from Russia Yeah. And, then you got here the split pea soup(干豌豆汤) split pea. And here you've got mushroom barley（磨菇麦酒）.
--And how long have you been working?
--I'm here working thirty-two years.
--Thirty-two years?
--I started working here in 1964.
--And has this place been as popular as it always has been? Always.
--Always popular? Always, yeah.
--What's the specialty? What do people come in and ask for the most?
--Yeah. People come to ask here for falafel(炸土豆泥三明治). We're a famous place for falafel here.
--This, right here?
--Yeah.
--Really?
--Yeah. And, we have humus（皮塔鸡豆包）, tabouli salads（黎巴嫩沙拉）, chick pea salads（鸡豆沙拉）, lettuce（莴苣）, tomatoes（蕃茄）, feta cheese（羊奶酪）, green beans（绿豆）.
